Do you feel self-conscious about scarring on your face and body, such as those that are caused by acne, burns and abrasions? Many people are self-conscious about their scarring because they believe it distracts from their beautiful or handsome appearance.
Not only are scars an aesthetic issue, but many women also find that scarring on the face affects their ability to apply makeup evenly, which can in turn affect the way their professional appearance is portrayed. At Macquarie Cosmetic Medicine in Sydney, we offer a cosmetic treatment that is designed to reduce the appearance of scars and restore the smoothness of your skin.
Micro needling is a technique where our experienced surgeons use tiny needles to reduce scarring on the skin, such as surgical, pitted, indented and raised scars. During your initial consultation, we will analyse the type and texture of your scar to determine the correct technique in order to reduce the appearance of it.
The procedure itself utilises hundreds of tiny pin pricks. This technique is designed to activate your body’s healing process, stimulating reparative cells to reduce the visibility of your scar tissue. Once this is complete, we will then apply a special restorative cream that will help this process even after the skin heals.
Micro needles penetrate the skin layer to create tiny channels through which our restorative creams may penetrate. These channels will close within 90 minutes, fully restoring the body’s natural defences. Meanwhile the active ingredients from the creams will be acting in and under the skin to create a lasting effect.
After the procedure, you should experience an improved skin texture and the scarred area should blend more flawlessly with the unaffected area of skin. If you have any concerns about the procedure, please do not hesitate to ask your cosmetic surgeon at Macquarie Cosmetic Medicine in Sydney.

Hydroquinone is an effective skin-lightening agent used to treat the appearance of pigmentation. Whether you suffer from pigmentation due to age, sun damage or genetics, the medical team at Macquarie Cosmetic Medicine located in Liverpool, can determine whether Hydroquinone is the right option for you.
Hydroquinone is a treatment cream that’s designed to fade uneven pigment and prevent new pigment from forming. The active ingredients are Salicylic acid 5%, ascorbic acid 2% and Hydroquinone 5% (depending on the strength advised by Dr Bright).
What Each Ingredient Does
Salicylic Acid – The top layer of skin, also known as the Stratum Corneum, has an inter-cellular glue which is holding the dead skin down. The salicylic acid helps to break down the glue that holds the dead skin cells. Once the dead skin cells have been exfoliated, the ascorbic acid and Hydroquinone will have an easier absorption into the skin.
Hydroquinone – This is the bleaching ingredient that helps to fade the pigment.
Ascorbic Acid – This is a form of vitamin C, which may also help to improve collagen reproduction and reduce pigmentation and scarring.
Note: Due to the oxidation of the ascorbic acid, once opened it is recommended you use it within 90 days. After 90 days, the product is still satisfactory but may not look as aesthetically pleasing, as the colour may yellow.
Start using Hydroquinone cream at night, as directed by Dr Bright.
What to Expect
You want to see some flaking and mild redness of the skin. When you stop seeing this, increase use to morning and night. If your reaction is too strong, use every second night. If you encounter any issues, our friendly professional staff will be happy to help.
It is important that you keep the product refrigerated.
Note: A sun-block, SPF 30+ MUST be worn every day and re-applied every 3 hours.
If you suffer from pigmentation, contact the team at Macquarie Cosmetic Medicine for your complimentary consultation.
