At Macquarie Cosmetic Medicine in Sydney we hear it all the time… and to be the bearer of some great news, it’s actually possible! And with little downtime it can even be undertaken in time for summer.
The idea of transferring fat from one part of your body to another isn’t just a pipe-dream. It’s an actual treatment available to contour and sculpt your body naturally. At Macquarie Cosmetic Medicine this treatment is called a cosmetic fat transfer.
Apart from the classic ideal of shrinking your thighs or tummy and increasing your bust there are a number of other reasons you might want a cosmetic fat transfer.
As your body ages your youthful vibrant and plump skin starts to deflate a little and your face, bust and hands can all lose their shape and sag. While this is occurring fatty deposits can start to build up in your stomach, thighs, arms, chin and even back, causing these areas to ‘pad out’ a little more than we’d like.
By transferring the fatty deposits from one area to another we can:
Cosmetic fat transfer has been around for over 100 years with constant improvements by practitioners. At Macquarie Cosmetic Medicine we utilise refined treatment procedures to ensure you receive the best results possible.
As you are transferring your own natural fat it will transform just like your normal body fat. This means that if you lose or gain weight at a noticeable level the transferred fat will either be lost or added to. Typically the transferred fat acts the same as the location it was grafted from, so if your fat was transferred from your tummy and you typically store fat here, the transferred fat will be the first to increase in size as you gain weight.
For those planning on losing a large amount of weight it is recommended that this is done prior to treatment to ensure the effects of the transfer are not lost.
There is very little recovery time, in fact, after transfer you will be mobile in the same day, and if you are having fat transferred to your hands or face it will be even sooner.
After the fat is removed you will be required to wear a firm fitting garment to minimise bruising and swelling however these are skin tight so they can be inconspicuously worn under normal clothes. If your transfer has treated the bust there will also be very light dressings at the entry points.
Bruising does vary from patient to patient however for breast transfers it normally resolves within 2 weeks and even sooner for the hands and face.
A cosmetic fat transfer for your breasts will provide a more natural looking and feeling result. This is perfect for those who would like to add one to two cup sizes without synthetic inserts. As the transferred fat is added to your existing tissue the shape is not likely to provide the fuller cleavage results of rounder implants.
At present it is expected that around 70% of the transferred fat is present after 1 year (and therefore forever) as some of the transferred fat is reabsorbed by the body as part of its natural processes.
No. You must first have a consultation with one of the physicians at Macquarie Cosmetic Medicine before you can have the treatment as we need to assess whether you are suitable for the transfer. To be eligible you need to have a good amount of fat in the right areas for the transfer.
