Do Older Patients Experience Additional Risk When Undergoing Cosmetic Surgery?
In a recent study conducted by the Vanderbilt University Medical Centre, it was found that senior citizens (over the age of 65) are at no higher risk of complications from cosmetic surgery than younger patients.
The study, which surveyed more than a hundred and thirty thousand patients during a five year period, found that older patients showed no increased risk of complications, despite being more prone to health problems such as diabetes. The study found that even patients over the age of 80 faced no higher risk of surgery related complications.
Other results also emerged from the data found that the most common procedure choice for older patients were facial, and the most common for their younger counterparts were breast procedures. The older population also have a higher rate of male patients undergoing cosmetic surgery.
What’s the crucial element in all of this?
The most important part to remember about all of this was that older patients only experienced no higher risk when visiting a certified and experienced cosmetic physician. Dr Ralph Bright has extensive experience in the field and is highly regarded. At Macquarie Cosmetic Medicine we offer a range of different procedures to suit each and every one of our patients. Just some of the procedures we offer include:
This is a fantastic facial treatment that can restore a youthful appearance to your visage. Unlike a facelift which can be extremely invasive, a threadlift involves the use of threads to lift the contours of your skin into a more youthful position. The threads are inserted from the scalp down toward the chin and jawline. Tiny cogs in the thread grip onto the surrounding tissue allowing the face to be lifted back into a more youthful position.
Commonly referred to as a tummy tuck, this procedure is design to make the abdomen area
more firm. Many of our patients suffer from the
appearance of loose or sagging skin in the stomach area as a result of pregnancy or extreme weight loss, and a tummy tuck is often a fantastic option to treat these problems. Not only does the procedure tighten the skin, it can also remove excess fat and tighten the surrounding muscles. Depending on the patient, a complete abdominoplasty can take anywhere between 1 and 5 hours, however a partial abdominoplasty can take as little as 1 to 2 hours.
