Hair Transplant
What causes hair loss in men?
Hair loss is hereditary and affects most men to some
degree. Other causes that can accelerate hair loss include
diet, stress, medical conditions and scalp disorders. Many
operations have been used to remove the bald areas and lift
the surrounding hair bearing areas up onto the top of the
head. Scalp lifting is becoming less popular as micrografting
of single hair follicles continues to be refined.
What is single follicle
hair transplant therapy?
In the past, plugs of scalp were transplanted. These gave
a very unnatural appearance. It is now possible to move
single hair follicles from the sides of the head and place
them into the bald area creating a very natural look.
How quickly does the
hair grow?
It starts growing in about 3-5 months and continues to thicken
over a year.Growing time can vary depending on how quickly
your hair grows.
How long does the hair
transplant last?
The hair that has been transplanted continues to grow as
if it were still on the side of the head. It is permanent
and will last a lifetime.
Does hair transplant hurt?
The procedure is performed under sedation with local
anaethetic. There will be some discomfort after the procedure.
Some people use panadol or panadeine forte.
How long does the procedure
take?
The procedure is performed in our surgery and takes one
day. The head is bandaged for three days. You will be able
to resume normal activities after 3-7 days. Heavy lifting
or strenous activity should not be attempted for 2 weeks
following the procedure.
